Is a ventilator right for you?  That’s the question addressed in a new video developed by CCCC and designed to be used in tandem with CCCC’s printed ventilator decision aid to help seriously ill consumers better understand the benefits and risks of ventilator use, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Designed as an introduction to the ventilator decision aid, the brief video features Dr. Doug Wilson, Medical Director Palliative Care at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa explaining basic facts about ventilator use.  A tandem video introducing the CPR decision aid is currently in production. Funding for the two videos was provided by the California Health Care Foundation.

CCCC’s highly-respected decision aids are an educational series designed by CCCC that explain the complex topics of life-sustaining treatments, using consumer-friendly language with evidence-based information. The aids were developed with the help and guidance of healthcare professionals, and reflect the latest research on these interventions. In addition to the ventilator decision aid, the series includes aids on CPR, artificial hydration and tube feeding.

CCCC has made digital versions of the decision aids available for free use for a limited time during the pandemic. Printed copies can be purchased in packs of 25 from CCCC.  Contact [email protected] for more information.
